The LNCMI-Toulouse is equipped with a wire-drawing workshop which allows to elaborate high strength conductors by the co-drawing technique associated to heat-treatments. With this kind of process, Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) can be applied to copper based reinforced conductors in order to induce strengthening of the structure.
Elaboration Equipment by SPD:
draw-bench 300 KN, L=6 m
draw-bench 100 KN, L=16,5 m

bull-block 40 KN, d=600 mm

wire-drawing machine 10 KN, d=300 mm
appointing machines 0.5 mm< d <40 mm

wire-drawing dies made of tungsten carbide 0.5 mm< d <40 mm
Turk-head die (rectangular shaping from 0 to 50 mm2)

dynamic furnace (varying speed) for the heat-treatment of bars (Tmax=1150°C, homogeneous area: 3 meters) under neutral atmosphere
static furnace for the heat-treatment (Tmax=1150°C, homogeneous area: 1 meter) under neutral atmosphere, with a quenching area

Characterization Equipment:
micro-indentation hardness testing (Shimadzu)
tensile test machine(Instron), 100 KN, T=77K et 293K

optical microscope (Olympus) x1000

resistivity measurement by the 4 probes method, T=77K and 293K
