Abstract : Electronic properties of nanowire-based heterostructures : a mixed dimensionality system


Electronic properties of nanowire-based heterostructures : a mixed dimensionality system.

Free-standing nanowires laterally overgrown by multilayers constitute a flexible new class of nanostructures, offering the possibility to engineer quantum states in the radial direction, while using the extended axis for facile transport and device integration. Radial heterostructures inherit the polygonal symmetry of the underlying nanowire substrate, inducing the formation of coexisting, coupled quasi- !D and quasi-2D channels forms in the electron gas. In this talk, I will review recent theoretical predictions for the electron gas formation in lateral heterostructures, their collective excitations and spectroscopic signatures, in connection with recent intra-band and inter-band spectroscopic investigations.
